The Reverie

I am currently in the pre-production stages of my thesis film The Reverie.  The film will be shot from January 26 to February 8, 2010 in the Sedona area. I am very much looking forward to it!

Here is a summary of the project -

When thirty year old Autumn Sumner’s long time boyfriend leaves her, she is completely lost. A meeting with a mystical dragonfly brings her on an unexpected journey of self-discovery. She visits her five-year-old self in a dream and soon discovers who she once was and who she still is today.

On I go!

Monday, September 7th, 2009

There is something so magical about transplanting yourself into a new part of the world. It is especially magical when you find yourself lucky enough to live within the heavenly beauty of Sedona. There is not a day I am here when I do not feel enlivened by my surroundings. To make matters even better, I have now started up my classes at ZGI. I am lucky to be in a class of passionate, intelligent individuals who hold the same thirst to learn that I own.  I have met so many talented people who love pure filmmaking, and I cannot wait to start collaborating with them.  There is so much to learn. On I go!

In Sedona

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

I have arrived and am settled in Sedona, Arizona.  It is truly mind blowing to take in the beauty around me. I have one week before my classes start which gives me time to begin to take in the landscape and gather inspiration. Every time I see the red rock mountains surrounding me, I feel overwhelmed with their majestic beauty. Sedona is a truly energetic and powerful place, and I know it is the ideal location for me to nurture my creativity. I feel separated from external pressures and completely immersed within a pure and supportive environment. This is exactly where I want to be.

Post-showing thoughts

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Our showing of In Place of Blood (there was ice) on Friday night was a huge success. I was so thrilled to see a large audience in attendance. Family, friends and longtime supporters were there, and we even had some new faces!  There is no better feeling than knowing our work has been viewed by people who mean to much so us, and that perhaps we have also gained some new noemarchdance fans! Thank you to everybody who came out to support us!

This was our largest work yet with 5 dancers and 2 actors performing. In true NMD fashion, the creative process was based on long distance communication and development. Over the summer, Kate ran rehearsals in three states, with half the dancers rehearsing in New Jersey and half in Connecticut, while the actors rehearsed in New York. We used our website as a basis for ongoing communication, posting videos and images for all performers to see.  This was our first experiment with our new CorresponDANCE, and the results were amazing.  When all of the performers came together on Friday morning, it was as if all the puzzle pieces we had carefully developed were finally pieced together forming a seamless blend of dance, theater, film and music. For me, there is no better feeling than finding natural connections between performers, film, music, choreography, etc. We all started our work from the same point of view and developed it through our artistic lens, and when all of our perspectives came together, it was truly an unexplainable and powerful moment.

I am proud to head off to Sedona knowing that we put our long distance collaboration to the test and it came out a success. There is no knowing what the future will bring, but I have a feeling our collaboration from Sedona to London is going to be an exciting one!

Much love to everybody who supports us. It means so much. Now onwards and upwards!
